Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced the Institute for Automated Mobility (IAM), partnering government, academic, and private organizations to develop technologies and safety standards for self-driving vehicles. Intel is the first private-sector member of IAM, which is administered by the Arizona Commerce Authority. ✔ Institute members are already at work creating plans for a simulation lab, and technology-neutral infrastructure with a 2.1-mile test track with multiple route configurations including intersections, signage, and traffic signals ✔ Following that tragedy, Intel published a blog post calling for collaborative discussions by automakers, tech companies, regulators, and other groups to focus on self-driving vehicle safety

Ford is using vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) tech to allow cars to pass through intersections without stopping. The experimental "Intersection Priority Management" system basically acts as air traffic control for cars. Ford is testing the system in the United Kingdom. ✔ What if you never had to stop at a red light again ✔ Ford has showcased a number of other possible uses for V2V and related V2X (vehicle-to-everything) in the U.K ✔ under a two-year research program that is currently wrapping up ✔ Given the low-priority status of infrastructure spending in the United States, it seems unlikely that government agencies will begin adding cameras and other hardware to intersections en masse
