A second referendum would be a disgraceful betrayal of democracy and an insult to the 17.4 million people who voted in 2016 – and I write that as somebody who voted Remain. ✔ Yet I have lost count of the number of times I have heard supposedly intelligent people, among them plenty of Oxford and Cambridge academics, insisting that the British people were too stupid or too prejudiced to decide correctly, and should be compelled to vote again until they get it right
