It will cover some devices that were previously too old to repair. ✔ Three waves of older devices Repairing older products is definitely a good thing, but Apple’s restrictive repair practices still mean that devices end up being thrown away when they otherwise could have been repaired ✔ But it just feels like it wouldn’t be quite as necessary if Apple made it easier for other people to repair its products

Apple admits it WILL throttle older phones with the release of iOS 12
Apple admitted in the iOS 12.1 release notes that the performance management feature will be turned on for its latest iPhone models - although users will be able to turn it off in settings. ✔ January 2018: Apple is hit with several class-action lawsuits over 'batterygate.' February 2018: Apple claims it won't need throttling in iPhone 8 and X models ✔ In cases that require more extreme forms of this power management, Apple says users may notice effects such as: Longer app launch times Lower frame rates while scrolling Backlight dimming (which can be overridden in Control Center) Lower speaker volume by up to -3dB Gradual frame rate reductions in some apps During the most extreme cases, the camera flash will be disabled as visible in the camera UI Apps refreshing in background may require reloading upon launch However, it says the following areas are not affected: Cellular call quality and networking throughput performance Captured photo and video quality GPS performance Location accuracy Sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer Apple Pay
