Apple has purchased Akonia Holographics and its HoloMirror technology. ✔ As Reuters notes, Apple purchased smaller companies in the past to use their technologies in its devices ✔ While Cupertino is staying mum as usual, Tim Cook openly admitted that it sees a future in augmented reality ✔ We think there are great things for customers and a great commercial opportunity

APPLE's original iPhone was released back in 2007, but before it dramatically changed the industry it was prototyped by the tech giant. Now it appears an early version of the then flagship has appeared on eBay. ✔ While such specifications were incredibly futuristic at the time, they appear archaic by today's standards ✔ The rear also has labels for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the four GSM bands it supposedly supported ✔ It is currently unknown why the listing can no longer be found on eBay

Apple has purchased Akonia Holographics, a company that makes lenses for smart goggles. Apple is said to be working on a pair of smart goggles of its own. ✔ Akonia also said it raised $11.6 million in seed funding in 2012 and was seeking additional funding ✔ It was unclear whether that funding ever materialized or who the firm's investors were ✔ Both are also intended for software developers testing the technology and cost several thousand dollars

Sony launched the Xperia XZ3 on Thursday which is the company's first phone with an OLED screen.  ✔ It's the Japanese tech giant's first handset with an OLED screen ✔ Sony has been doubling down on the fast-growing areas of its business to offset the decline in mobile such as its PlayStation gaming unit and image sensors ✔ So the new flagship will be more aligned to succeed in its home market than outside of Japan, Neil Shahe, research director at Counterpoint Research told CNBC by email ahead of the launch
