Apple knocked its big iPad and Mac event out of the park

10/31/2018, 5:19:39 PM
After one of the most disappointing iPhone events in recent memory just one month ago, Apple came back in October with a very impressive showing. ✔ Both accessories now click onto the tablet using special magnets and connectors, and get all their power directly from the tablet ✔ It wasn't perfect 90 minutes could have been trimmed down, even if it wasn't as long as the two-hour September event but my excitement for Apple's new products continued long after the show ended, and I could not say the same for last month's event

Adding USB-C to the iPad isn’t enough to fix Apple’s messy port strategy

10/31/2018, 5:04:04 PM
Welcome to Dongle Hell (USB-C edition). ✔ If you buy an iPad Pro, Apple does not sell a single pair of wired headphones that you can connect without a dongle ✔ bad, to put it mildly, although there’s hope in releases from Google and OnePlus.) If you own a fancy pair of Lightning headphones (or even the EarPods that Apple includes with its iPhones that are the default option for many users), there is no way to connect them to your iPad or your MacBook Air ✔ And the only way to find out may be trial and error ✔ Is that worth putting up with a new layer of dongle despair

Why the new MacBook Air isn’t ‘a bigger MacBook’

10/31/2018, 6:04:25 PM
For Intel chips, cooling is everything. ✔ Outside of gaming laptops with giant vents, portable machines usually can't ✔ It was always intended to be an ultra-portable that can, for most people, be the only computer they need ✔ Apple is betting that this low-power chip, paired with active cooling, can do the same job as the original Air's beefier processor

The iPad Pro isn’t an Xbox competitor, even with console-like specs

10/31/2018, 5:12:01 PM
Tablets provide one type of gaming experience that can’t compare to consoles. ✔ Fun games that don’t take themselves too seriously, like Fortnite , have proved that there’s a space for console games to exist on mobile devices like iPhones and iPads, but they’re still not the same as playing on a console with a proper controller

10/31/2018, 7:55:12 PM
iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, there are a lot of different Macs to choose from these days. Thanks to the updated specs and increase in price of the Mac mini, it's begun to creep up to the base model iMac. In this guide, we now put up the specs against each other to see which is a better buy. ✔ This is where the Mac mini crosses into iMac territory ✔ It is a slight inconvenience that might be a deciding factor for some ✔ The higher-end iMacs are well worth the money, but the base models won’t be worth buying again until they’ve been updated with some faster components

10/31/2018, 4:41:02 PM
