Apple knocked its big iPad and Mac event out of the park

10/31/2018, 5:19:39 PM
After one of the most disappointing iPhone events in recent memory just one month ago, Apple came back in October with a very impressive showing. ✔ Both accessories now click onto the tablet using special magnets and connectors, and get all their power directly from the tablet ✔ It wasn't perfect 90 minutes could have been trimmed down, even if it wasn't as long as the two-hour September event but my excitement for Apple's new products continued long after the show ended, and I could not say the same for last month's event

Apple Updates MacBook Air With Better Screen But Worse Keyboard

10/31/2018, 7:02:48 PM

10/31/2018, 4:45:48 PM

Adding USB-C to the iPad isn’t enough to fix Apple’s messy port strategy

10/31/2018, 5:04:04 PM
Welcome to Dongle Hell (USB-C edition). ✔ If you buy an iPad Pro, Apple does not sell a single pair of wired headphones that you can connect without a dongle ✔ bad, to put it mildly, although there’s hope in releases from Google and OnePlus.) If you own a fancy pair of Lightning headphones (or even the EarPods that Apple includes with its iPhones that are the default option for many users), there is no way to connect them to your iPad or your MacBook Air ✔ And the only way to find out may be trial and error ✔ Is that worth putting up with a new layer of dongle despair

Why the new MacBook Air isn’t ‘a bigger MacBook’

10/31/2018, 6:04:25 PM
For Intel chips, cooling is everything. ✔ Outside of gaming laptops with giant vents, portable machines usually can't ✔ It was always intended to be an ultra-portable that can, for most people, be the only computer they need ✔ Apple is betting that this low-power chip, paired with active cooling, can do the same job as the original Air's beefier processor

The iPad Pro isn’t an Xbox competitor, even with console-like specs

10/31/2018, 5:12:01 PM
Tablets provide one type of gaming experience that can’t compare to consoles. ✔ Fun games that don’t take themselves too seriously, like Fortnite , have proved that there’s a space for console games to exist on mobile devices like iPhones and iPads, but they’re still not the same as playing on a console with a proper controller

Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile reportedly won't support eSIM until late 2018

10/31/2018, 4:01:16 PM
The carriers delayed support because of technical problems. ✔ Based on our discussions with Apple, we believe these concerns will be resolved quickly and you should be able to add our great Verizon service on your secondary line before the end of the year ✔ iOS 12.1 has arrived: It delivers Group FaceTime, new emoji and dual-SIM capability

The Mac mini's price jump has crept into iMac territory. How do they compare?

10/31/2018, 7:55:12 PM
iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, there are a lot of different Macs to choose from these days. Thanks to the updated specs and increase in price of the Mac mini, it's begun to creep up to the base model iMac. In this guide, we now put up the specs against each other to see which is a better buy. ✔ This is where the Mac mini crosses into iMac territory ✔ It is a slight inconvenience that might be a deciding factor for some ✔ The higher-end iMacs are well worth the money, but the base models won’t be worth buying again until they’ve been updated with some faster components

10/31/2018, 4:41:02 PM
An IT employee at a Chicago hospital discovered a bizarre phenomenon that temporarily turns iPhones and Apple Watches into very expensive paperweights. ✔ The incident began on October 8th when Woolridge began receiving several calls that cellphones weren't working in the building ✔ As it turns out, Apple recently made the switch from using quartz oscillator clocks to MEMS-based clocks ✔ After that, the device can be turned on and operated as usual

The update went live on Tuesday alongside the release of iOS 12.1 and, not long after, a number of Apple Watch Series 4 owners reported facing issues. Apple has since pulled the update. ✔ Apple has temporarily removed the watchOS 5.1 software update after some users said it bricked their flashy new wearables ✔ It's unclear what the cause of the bug is, which causes the Watch to get stuck on the Apple logo boot screen after the update is installed ✔ The digital crown, which is used to scroll through lists, has been overhauled to include haptic feedback
