HURRICANE Gordon drenched the Gulf Coast with torrential rains as it continued its warpath inland today. Here is all the latest information on the hurricane. ✔ The hurricane made landfall on Tuesday night near the Alabama-Mississippi border, bringing a deluge of flooding ✔ Power has been knocked out across the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama leaving at least 30,000 people in the dark ✔ New Orleans was devastated by deadly Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which claimed almost 2,000 lives

A POWERFUL earthquake has rocked the city of Sapporo in northern Japan just hours after large parts of the south of the country were battered by the biggest typhoon to hit in 25 years. ✔ The tremor struck at an approximate depth of 20 miles, USGS data said ✔ The epicenter was just 16 miles from the city of Chitose, home of Hokkaido's main airport ✔ No tsunami warnings have been issued following the tremor ✔ Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido prefecture with a population of nearly two million people

A MAGNITUDE 7 earthquake has struck 112 km southeast of Sapporo in Japan. ✔ A 7.0 to 7.9 magnitude earthquake is considered major and can cause serious damage ✔ The earthquake that caused the tsunami of 2011, also called Great Sendai Earthquake or Great Tōhoku Earthquake, in northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011 was 9.0 The event began with a powerful earthquake off the northeastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, which caused widespread damage on land and initiated a series of large tsunami waves that devastated many coastal areas of the country, most notably in the Tōhoku region (northeastern Honshu) ✔ The tsunami also instigated a major nuclear accident at the Fukushima power station along the coast
