iPhone XR vs. XS: Which Apple Do You Pick?

10/23/2018, 11:37:24 AM
The new $750 iPhone XR is so much like the $1,000 iPhone XS that it's hard to see why you'd pay more. WSJ's Joanna Stern reviews the key differences.

iPhone XR review

10/23/2018, 10:01:12 AM
Finally, an iPhone with a decent battery ✔ Apple has managed a marketing masterstroke with the iPhone XR: not only has it delayed the launch of the third of its trio of 2018 iPhones, thus creating some mystery around it, it’s also managed to make this seem like this year’s ‘cheap’ iPhone ✔ You can still take a portrait shot and have the background attractively blurred to keep the focus on the subject, but unlike with the iPhone XS, you can’t take pictures of objects and animals in the same way

iPhone XR review: Answers to your questions on Apple's least expensive new iPhone

10/23/2018, 11:23:01 AM
The iPhone XR is the least expensive of the new iPhones. It has many of the same features as the pricier iPhone XS. What are you giving up? ✔ On both the XR and XS devices, you can also adjust the depth of field inside an image shot in Portrait Mode after the fact ✔ Email: ebaig@usatoday.com or tweet USA TODAY Personal Tech Columnist Ed Baig at @edbaig ✔ Baig is co-author of iPhone For Dummies, an independent work published by Wiley

With both style and substance, the ‘budget’ iPhone XR is the iPhone to buy

10/23/2018, 10:14:04 AM
Apple’s iPhone XS and XS Max are its flagship smartphones that do everything and anything. The iPhone XR is more interesting, because it looks futuristic like its siblings, but it’s cheaper, and more stylish. It comes in a range of colors like blue, red, coral, and yellow, and we can’t stop staring. ✔ It can shoot 4K 60 frames-per-second video, can record stereo sound, packs Smart HDR, and for the first time you can use Portrait Mode without the need for the secondary lens ✔ The iPhone 5S, which released in 2013, is the oldest iPhone capable of running iOS 12, so you’re getting a good deal of longevity out of your device

iPhone XR Review: You Don’t Have to Spend $1,000 for the Best iPhone

10/23/2018, 10:12:11 AM
The iPhone XR has a few price-cutting compromises, but great battery life, Face ID and a colorful design make it the best iPhone to buy, writes Joanna Stern. ✔ The main reason many will prefer the XS’s 5.8-inch screen ✔ Given that it’s glass, I’d still stick a case on it ✔ OK, maybe animal portraiture artists and screen obsessives ✔ Anyone else willing to spend up to $1,450 for the top-spec iPhone XS Max is putting status over substance

Review: Apple’s iPhone XR is a fine young cannibal

10/23/2018, 10:14:05 AM
This iPhone is great. It is most like the last iPhone — but not the last “best” iPhone — more like the last not as good iPhone. It’s better than that one though, just not as good as the newest best iPhone or the older best iPhone. If you’re upgrading from an iPhone 7 or […] ✔ See the two maps compared here, the iPhone XR’s depth map is far less aware of the scene depth and separation between the ‘slices’ of distance ✔ Whether you help Apple boost its average selling price by buying one of the maxed out XS models or you help it block another Android purchase with an iPhone XR, I think it will probably be happy having you, raw or cooked

What’s the difference between the iPhone XS and XR?

10/23/2018, 10:47:10 AM
Apple says it wants to reach a broader audience with its $749 iPhone XR. The Post's Geoffrey A. Fowler examines the new iPhone XR and compares it to the more advanced iPhone XS.

iPhone XR makes the right trade-offs for a cheaper price

10/23/2018, 10:33:56 AM
Apple offers you a simple trade-off with its new iPhone XR, the middlebrow cousin to the top-of-the-line iPhone XS. ✔ Apple says that with LCD screens, higher resolution drains the battery faster, a trade-off that's minimal with the XS because its screen doesn't need a backlight ✔ Perhaps Apple will one day design a smaller XR and revive a trend of offering both standard and larger versions for each major model

The iPhone XR Is Good, Which Means Choosing An iPhone Right Now Is Confusing As Hell

10/23/2018, 10:21:54 AM
The XR is an iPhone under $1,000, with the features of an iPhone over $1,000. ✔ Most days, I went to bed with about half of the battery left, with Saturday as the exception because, by the time I had gotten home, it was Sunday ✔ Ultimately, when it comes to buying an iPhone: Upgrade only when you must, and (obviously) buy only what you can afford

iPhone XR review: Power, price and colourful design makes this a very tempting upgrade

10/23/2018, 10:07:09 AM
THE iPhone XR brings a big screen on a smaller budget and with this device packing some premium specs there's certainly lots to like. Here's express.co.uk's full iPhone XR review. ✔ Tucked under the glass and metal body is Apple's turbocharged A12 Bionic processor which is currently one of the fastest chips on the market ✔ And the all-glass finish brings a quality feel to the hand and tucked under this durable case is that incredible new processor ✔ It's fast, feature-packed and that more affordable price makes it a very attractive upgrade

Apple supplier AMS in steepest fall since 2008

10/23/2018, 8:17:20 AM

Review | iPhone XR: The best $250 you ever saved on a new phone

10/23/2018, 10:17:54 AM
The $750 middle child of Apple’s confusing new lineup is the best-value iPhone in years. Here’s why you should consider the XR instead of the XS. ✔ Since 2014, Apple has not only increased the camera’s resolution, but also the size and sensitivity of the sensor that captures images, allowing it to take night photos that look much more like the eye sees ✔ Now you just have to figure out what to do with all that money you saved

What it will cost to repair screen on new iPhone models XR, XS and XS Max

10/23/2018, 11:59:59 AM
Apple's iPhone screen repair pricing chart shows a cost of $199 for the XR, $279 for the XS and $329 for the XS Max. ✔ Apple just released its pricing chart on screen repairs for the complete lineup of iPhones, and says consumers will pay $199 to fix the 6.1 inch LCD screen of the XR, vs ✔ That compares to $279 for the 5.8 inch OLED screen XS and the predecessor to that model, the X ✔ If you have an older phone, you'll spend even less ✔ The iPhone XR has what Apple refers to as a Liquid Retina display
