The Terrafugia Transition flying car will go on sale next year, roughly a decade after the first prototype rolled out of its hangar. Terrafugia promises several major improvements, including a hybrid powertrain, to make up for the long wait. The company is one of several entities developing flying cars. ✔ So, unlike other developers of flying cars, Terrafugia expects the Transition to be used more like a conventional airplane ✔ Companies like Uber are envisioning swarms of airborne taxis flying around cities, which will require some form of urban air traffic control system, and will challenge current aviation regulations ✔ But it remains to be seen whether any of these efforts will be successful in the long term
